WHEN INTUITION KNOCKS PAY ATTENTION
(Don’t Wait Until You Hurt Yourself)
- By Joyce Hansen

Intuition is so important but often ignored for faster, more logical ways of reaching answers to questions or concerns. We are all born with intuition but often it is not paid attention to as a valuable tool to use in life. As a small child, I could walk into a room and sense the mood of the people. I seemed to know things without knowing why I knew them. I was told repeatedly that I was “too sensitive” and was taught to repress my feelings rather than explore them.

Intuition is not mysterious or mystical. It is practical inner wisdom that is a useful tool for dealing with daily issues.

Each of us comes into this life with a purpose – with lessons to learn and gifts to give. As you develop your intuition, you receive guidance that fulfills your purpose in every way, but how many people really use all of the gifts that they are given? What untapped potential is within you that is anxious to be discovered and maximized?

While learning to trust intuition, some people go through a time when their life seems to be falling apart. Don’t be alarmed if you are experiencing the feeling of “is this all there is”? Sometimes work, relationship, and family dynamics need to change because you are changing and shifts happen for a reason. It is normal to feel uncomfortable, irritable and unsettled when you are ending old patterns of behaviour and developing new ones.

I started my public relations business based on the tried and true methods of promoting and have found with the surge of social media avenues now available, that traditional PR is been challenged. Should you twitter, tweet, link or video your every move? Brains are saturated with new technology and it can become quite confusing as to what tools you need to incorporate into your business to make it more successful.

Recently, I became so frustrated with trying to get results for a client that I decided to turn to a task that I could see the end result of immediately. I ended up badly spraining my writing hand because I was hurrying to get the job done as quickly as possible to receive the instant gratification I was seeking.

The intense pain I felt when I injured myself was a sign to me that I needed to slow down and listen to what my intuition was telling me, rather than forging ahead with rage trying to make things happen the way I wanted them to.

When I gave myself permission to take a “time out” in nature, I found that when I had quieted the brain enough to stall the mindless chatter going on in my head, that the next step of how to help my client came to me effortlessly. I paid attention to my “gut feelings”.

Do you feel a gnaw in your stomach when you are weighing the pros and cons of whether to proceed with one course of action over another? Do you proceed anyway even if you don’t feel the course of action is right because there is no logical reason why you shouldn’t proceed with the choice you keep coming back to? What results have you experienced? How did the results of your choice impact you positively or negatively?

Remember that things that aren’t working for you may reflect old patterns that need your awareness, attention, and healing. As you do the meditative inner work, things will start to shift in your life as you become less influenced by the outer world and more influenced by your inner world.

Why do we make life so difficult for ourselves when we can do things that are relatively simple to move ourselves and our business ahead?

Help yourself to remember to tune into your intuition by putting visual reminders around your work area, in your car and in your private space at home. Use notes, pictures or objects that have an inner connection meaning for you.

This is an example of an affirmation that you can use to carry with you:

“Following my intuitive guidance helps me to create work I love, helps me to express myself in new and exciting ways and brings me satisfaction and success in all areas of my life.”

Notice what’s on your mind right now and pay attention to those things your mind keeps coming back to. Be aware of how your body feels. Is there something you need to pay attention to or take action on?

In learning to follow your intuition, start with baby steps. As you pay attention to what your intuition is telling you on a consistent basis your inner guidance will come through more clearly and consistently. You will find that when you are connected with your intuition, that you are usually calmer, have less fear and move throughout the day with a sense of calm and ease.

Being the control type of person that I am, trusting intuition was difficult for me but I am learning, still kicking and screaming a little, but enjoying the journey into the unknown and undocumented, confident that I have a positive guiding force within me that I can tap into at any time for answers and reassurance.

Try checking in with your intuition as often as you check your e-mail, g-mail, snail mail…..and you will be mentally healthier, achieving focused results rather than feeling scattered from listening to outside influences.

Recognizing intuition can come in the form of words, mental images, or feeling impressions. You may also feel a radiant warmth, or sense a flood of energy flowing through you. I know when it is time for me to write an article because the words start bubbling in my head and my fingers dance with energy.

You need to relax, quiet your mind, and focus on being still. Write down what words you see, draw the images you visualize and describe the sounds you hear. Do any one of them, or a combination of them make sense to you regarding the situation you were enquiring about? If not, keep practicing meditating for intuitive guidance on a regular basis and all of a sudden a new idea or solution will become clear to you that may not have had you continued to stress and worry yourself about what you were going to do next.

If you received messages during your still time, allow yourself to believe that what you are thinking is the right action to take based on what you are intuitively feeling at that time and act on the advice you are being guided to take.

Journal the results – was your intuition right? Was it fun moving out of your comfort zone and discovering new ways of doing things? Did you feel like a naughty child with a secret and feel like laughing because you were having fun with experimenting with the unknown?

If you are being guided to try something new, your critical voice may try to stop you, telling you that you might make a mistake or look foolish. Acknowledge that negative voice but remember no one is perfect so move on and give the idea a try.

Don’t try to make something happen – allow it to happen. And finally, repeat to yourself:

“As I learn to rely on intuitive guidance, my life, work, feelings and actions intertwine harmoniously and successfully with everyone currently in my life and with those I will encounter on my path.”

When intuition knocks, don’t wait for an injury to happen before you pay attention – pay attention to what you are feeling right now. Why not live life on purpose – it is what we are meant to do. Dive into the unknown, enjoy interpreting the messages you receive and have fun living your life to the fullest – what are you waiting for – not an injury I hope!
